Canada Trailing Behind in Olympic Medal Betting Odds

Canada Trailing Behind in Olympic Medal Betting Odds

Canada is sending its largest number of athletes to the Summer Olympics of 2021 since the 1984 games. Their total contingent has 371 athletes, including 40 competitors that have already won medals at the Olympics.

But according to the calculations by OddsShark, Canada is well behind others as far as being favorites to win the most gold medals with a long +5000 wager at sportsbooks.

At the last Olympic Games in Rio in 2016, Canada had only been able to send 314 athletes. This year their contingent is much stronger, but experts believe that Canada will still have to face very tough competition to get top podium finishes.

The USA has consistently been the highest gold medal winner in all of the last six summer Olympics. In the last Olympics in 2016, the USA won 46 gold medals. This number was in itself very impressive. But it seems even more impressive when compared to the second-highest gold medal-winning country, which had 19 medals less than the USA.

So it seems obvious that the USA is the favorite among sports bettors to win the most gold medals at the Tokyo 20021 Olympics as well. At present, they are -1000 favorites to win most gold medals and -2000 to be the highest overall medal winners. China is the USA’s toughest rival at the Olympics. China is the only country to have ever defeated the USA for the highest gold medal tally ever since 1992. In 2008, China was able to win 48 gold medals, which was higher than the USA’s count.

China has been second behind the USA in the medal tally for all the last three Olympics, and their odds are +650 to overtake the USA’s medal tally in Tokyo.

Japan, the host country, is also trailing behind as far as being favorites for the sports bettors. Their odds are +2200 to win the most gold medals and +5000 to be the highest overall medal winners. Great Britain, who has been a strong performer at the Olympics, has also not done very well in odds this year.

Great Britain and Russia both have +2800 odds to be the highest gold medal winners. Great Britain’s odd to be the highest overall medal winner is +5000.

Canada is not tipped to be the favorite among sports bettors. But there are many Canadian athletes who are expected to bring home medals for the country. Canada’s women’s basketball team had a strong performance in the tournaments right before the Olympics. But their odds are also +2200 to win at the Olympics. Canadian sprinter Andre DeGrasse has a +1000 odds to win the men’s 100 meters event. But he is the second favorite for the men’s 200 meters event with +350 odds.

There are many other talented athletes from Canada who will participate in the Olympics. The competition will be tough, and many odds are still very close. Only athletes who will be able to sustain the pressure and give their best performance will be able to come back with medals.
