Operators Form Coalition in Georgia to Persuade Lawmakers and Legalize Gambling

While the online gambling sector is growing, operators are facing constant failures in the Georgian market. Casino operators have already tried and failed twice to legalize gambling in the state. However, the operators are not giving in as they form a new coalition to persuade lawmakers.

The casinos are trying to legalize gambling and build premium resorts in the state. The new coalition sees big shots like Hard Rock International, Caesars Entertainment, and Wynn Resorts joining hands. The latest report by the Atlanta Business Chronicle dictates that casino operators are trying to form an initiative and persuade lawmakers.

Names like Foxwoods Resort, Bally’s Corporation, and Penn National Gaming are also joining the cause.

The incentive behind the coalition is simple – Georgia offers almost 11 million citizens, making it an untapped commercial gaming arena. In addition, it is the seventh most-populated state in the United States with the busiest airport globally – Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International.

The state also houses millions of sports enthusiasts, seeing it is home to NBA Hawks, MLB Braves, and NFL Falcons. It even holds golf tournaments while teams from the state compete in the ACC and SEC.

Several racing events also take place in the state, offering ample opportunities to casino operators. As a result, it is currently one of the most sought-after destinations to establish gaming stations and casinos worldwide.

Foxwoods and Speedway Motorsports recently teamed up to offer 1 billion dollars for an integrated resort in the state. As per the companies, if the state passes the gaming project, it will provide an 85,000 square-foot casino, 11,000-seated venue, a theme park, multiple restaurants, a 700-room hotel, etc.

Will Georgia Consider Sports Betting in 2022?

The state concluded its legislative session for the year back in March. After it restarts in January 2022, sports betting and pro gaming advocates will try to persuade lawmakers into issuing standards that support gambling outside the lottery.

The mission will be challenging as Georgia is known as a conservative and deeply religious state. In addition, Republicans have been in control of the Governor’s office, House, and Senate for 15+ years now. However, there might be some hope since commercial casinos and sports betting are quickly accepted throughout the nation. North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee are among the most notable names that recently passed bills related to sports betting.

Casino operators like Atlanta Speedway pitch are trying to build resorts at the Centennial Yards and CNN center. They also want to enter towns like Kingsland, Hartwell, and Augusta.

Rick Lackey (s supporter of casinos in Georgia and real estate executive) says that casinos in the state can reach up to 5 billion dollars worth of investment. Lawmakers will need to vote against a 5 billion dollar investment that can create up to 50,000 jobs in the state.
